La Bufadora โ North America's Largest Marine GeyserLa Bufadora is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena on the Pacific Coast. This marine geyser is formed by a sea cave that compresses air and water as waves enter, forcing them upward through a narrow opening with tremendous force โ erupting up to 30 meters (100 feet) into the air with a thunderous boom you feel in your chest as much as hear. The blowhole is located at the tip of the Punta Banda Peninsula, about 30 minutes south of Ensenada. The road to La Bufadora is lined with one of Baja's best artisan markets โ local hot sauce producers, craft vendors, fresh ceviche, churros, and seafood tostadas. Build in at least 20 minutes on the way back to shop. When a big set of waves arrives and the geyser erupts fully, the crowd goes wild โ cameras click, people scatter from the mist, and kids run away laughing. There's a genuine communal joy to the experience that makes it special regardless of age. Go in the morning on a weekday to avoid cruise ship crowds. |
